I whipped up my own DIY bathroom sign one weekend after guests kept getting lost trying to find the bathroom.  This bathroom decor sign took less than 15 minutes to make, and it was less than $10 as well.

If you recall, we love bathroom humor and decor.  (Check out my Have a Nice Poop! post for a free printable sign as well as a peek inside this guest bathroom.)

Why Our Bathroom Needed Its Own Guest Sign

Our house is basically one big circle where all the rooms are arranged around a common hall.  This common hall has the study, nursery, guest room, coat closet, linen closet, and two bathrooms on it.  The hall then enters into the master bedroom, which then becomes the family room, which meets up with the formal rooms at the entrance to our house… where it all starts over again.  As you can see, there are a LOT of doors off that main hall!

Hubby and I wanted to find a way to designate the bathroom door to save guests from having to go through door after door to find it when we weren’t around to direct them! I wanted something unique and cute, so I made my own DIY bathroom sign.

Bathroom Sign Supplies

  • Wooden or metal sign, painted with chalkboard paint (buy one pre-painted or paint it yourself.)
  • Wooden figures of man and woman (found mine at Hobby Lobby)
  • White paint
  • Glue

How to Recreate this DIY Bathroom Sign

I found my chalkboard sign pre-painted at Hobby Lobby, which was great.  I LOVE painting with chalkboard paint, but I don’t mind time saved not having to do it myself.  Luckily, my chalkboard sign also already had a cute rope hanger on it. Score.

I also bought two little wooden people at Hobby Lobby.  I then painted them with white paint.  It only took one layer, and they were dried within 10 minutes.

After letting the man and woman dry, I glued them to the chalkboard with hot glue, and ta-da!  So simple.

This sign now hangs outside our guest bathroom. No one gets confused finding the bathroom, and we get several comments on how fun it our DIY bathroom sign is!
