I always have a hard time trying to figure out what to get my aunt for the holidays or for her birthday.  It seems like she already has everything she needs and wants that’s in my budget.  Year after year, I always seem to decide on something small and unique or something handmade as a gift.  That way it’s thoughtful but something I know she doesn’t already have.

What do you get a cow lover? Or someone who loves farmhouse decor?

One thing about my aunt is that she really loves all animals but especially enjoys the cows she keeps on her property. These cows have started to act like dogs for her. Whenever they see her, they run like puppies to greet her and see whatever tasty treat she has for them. They cows all have names, and they even get featured on the family Christmas card. So she definitely has a sweet spot for them!

Farmhouse and cow decor is so popular these days, so she has a lot of cow print items in her house already.  I didn’t want to make a decor item that would be displayed since it would have to match her current cow pieces.

Thus, this year for Christmas, I went the handmade route with a cow-print potholder since I couldn’t brainstorm any other cow lover gift ideas that I liked more.  I really liked this DIY idea since the potholder will be stored in a drawer.  Thus, I don’t have to worry about it clashing with her farmhouse decor.  But, every time she goes to take a pan out of the oven, she will hopefully smile at the cow-print gift.

Cow Print Potholder: Perfect Gift Idea

I’m sharing this gift idea just now because, well, Christmas this year was super busy with family obligations, and baby girl #2 decided to make an early debut at the beginning of January. Thus, I’ve not had a lot of free time! But, I’m now able to sit down and finally let you in on some of my recent DIY projects.

So, how do you make a potholder?  It’s really very simple.  I made this cow potholder loosely using this potholder tutorial I found online.  I used a solid pink fabric for the holder at the top, and a cow-print cotton fabric for the potholder body.  Inside, I have a layer of Insul-Brite.  In total, this sewing project took about 30 minutes to complete.  I spent more time hunting for cow-print fabric.  (If you’re ever looking for cow fabric for a cow lover gift, look at Hobby Lobby first!)

Overall, the potholder is a nice complement to the cow towels my Mom gifted her for Christmas.  I think it turned out super cute, and it seemed well received.  What do you think?  Any other cow lover gifts you can think of?

Like cows? Check out my post from a while ago on cow onesies for Chick-fil-a’s Cow Appreciation Day.  Also, my Dad is Chick-fil-a’s biggest fan, and we threw him a huge Chick-fil-a and cow themed 60th birthday party.   Really, what is it with our family and cows?
